Rungungu school
Education is the future and the way out of poverty.
- about 566 children
- one headmistress and five teachers
- up to 70 of the youngest children in one classroom
- three shared toilets with no water
That is why we want to help the school create a safe, clean and dignified place to learn.
How the school looks today
About 566 children attend the primary school in Rungungu. One headmistress and five teachers look after them, doing their utmost even though the conditions are very hard.
The school is typical of the area: a few simple single-storey buildings. Those buildings are already decaying and falling apart, and some classrooms cannot be used.
Up to 70 of the youngest children sit in one classroom. Four or five share a desk built for two. Those who do not get a place sit on the floor.
Even so, the children are eager to learn. They know that education is their only chance of a better life.
